HRC’s 1989 500cc Dream Team reunite at Vets MXDN

1989 500cc HRC Dream Team - Thorpe, Leisk and Geboers - reunite at Farleigh Castle circuit in 2010
On this weekend, 12 years ago, 1989’s prestigious 500cc HRC Dream Team raced at this event on their original works Honda machines – World Champion Dave Thorpe (UK), Runner-up World Champion Jeff Leisk and Belgium’s Eric Geboers, who finished third that year.
On 17-19 September 2010, the superstar Honda HRC reunited on the track for the first time since their historic 1-2-3 finish at the final Grand Prix of the season at Wohlen in Switzerland on 27 August 1989.
Belgium’s Geboers won five world championships and Thorpe was the 500cc World Champion on three occasions.
It was a very nostalgic and special event for the trio, as well as all other competitors and spectators. Teams came from all over the world to compete, including Australia, France, Spain, Germany, Belgium, Portugal, Scotland, Northern and Southern Ireland.
Other big names competing at the 2010 event included former British World 500cc Champion Graham Noyce, ex-Nations winner and multi-time British champion Rob Herring, who won the 2009 Vets MXDNs event – and another British motocross legend Neil Hudson, who won the 1981 World 250cc Championship.
The guests of honor were five-times World Champion Georges Jobé and three-times World Champion André Malherbe (both from Belgium), and former Stunt Rider Eddie Kidd
