On 10 July 2021, Queensland rider Hunter Lawrence won both motos at Southwick in the AMA Pro 250cc class to capture his first career win in this class.
The Team Honda HRC rider dominated the 250MX class with an overall victory this weekend aboard his CRF250R during round 5 of AMA Pro Motocross in Massachusetts.

Hunter’s younger brother and teammate Jett Lawrence entered the championship’s only sand race of the season with possession of the red plate. But it turned out to be a down day for Jett, who fell in the first moto, but fought back to ninth and improved to third in the second moto.

Jett’s main championship rival, Justin Cooper, scored five more points than Jett to reduce the Australian’s Championship lead to three-points.
Hunter enjoyed a decent start in the first moto, completing lap 1 in fifth place, and he secured the lead two-thirds of the way through the 30-minute-plus-two-lap race, going on to win by nearly eight seconds.

He went on to win ahead of Husqvarna rider RJ Hampshire with Kawasaki rider Jo Shimoda in third, with Cooper back in sixth.
In moto 2, Cooper led for the first 20 minutes, with Hunter putting the pressure on him, eventually taking the lead and win ahead of Coper, with brother Jett in third.

Despite a down day, Jett managed to retain his red plate (204 points) to lead Cooper (201) by just three points, with Hunter Lawrence in third on 178.
While Hunter Lawrence’s 1-1 sweep at Southwick was his career-first AMA Pro Motocross overall victory, he had enjoyed previous success. The Australian topped two motos during the 2019 season – one at High Point and one at Spring Creek.

The Australian brothers went on to create history that season with Jett winning the Championship and Hunter also finishing on the podium in third.
