Congratulations to Australian Motocross racer Jett Lawrence (Honda) who on Saturday, 23 April won the 2022 AMA 250SX East Championship in the United States after finishing second to Austin Forkner (Kawasaki) at the Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts.

Jett, from Landsborough on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, created history that day becoming the first Australian to win this title and second Australian to win an AMA title, achieving this same feat last year in the outdoor AMA 250cc motocross championship.

The reigning AMA Pro Motocross 250 Champion, who is just 18-years-old, joins Australian Motocross Legend Chad Reed as the only Australians to win AMA titles – with both winners of AMA Supercross and Motocross titles.

Chad Reed won the 2002 AMA 125cc East Coast Supercross Championship, followed by two AMA 450 Supercross Championships in 2004 and 2008, which were also accredited by the FIM as World Championships.

Jett had originally planned to compete in the AMA SX West division in 2022. But after a rib injury in January – just two weeks before the start of the season – he decided to switch to the East coast series which started in late February, giving him more time to recover. And the move paid dividends for him– securing the 250SX title in his third attempt after finishing third in 2021.

Jett had a sensational season finishing on the podium at every round in the 2022 Supercross season, which included four wins, two second-places and two third-places.  He won the Championship comfortably on 192 points, 53 points ahead of RJ Hampshire (Husqvarna, 139) and Pierce Brown (GasGas, 128).

Jett’s older brother Hunter is contesting the 2022 AMA 250SX West Championship, which is still running. Hunter is currently in second position, 23 points behind Series leader Christian Craig after seven rounds, with two rounds remaining.
