Jett Lawrence notches up first career AMA Supercross win in Houston
On 19 January 2021, 17-year-old Australian Jett Lawrence broke through for his maiden victory in the world’s highest profile Supercross series, the 2021 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship.
In just the eighth AMA Supercross race of his career, Lawrence from Landsborough in Queensland notched his first indoor win in the 250SX East Region Championships – in the second Houston 2 round in NRG Stadium.
It was a convincing performance by the young Aussie who led from start to finish after blasting his HRC Honda CRF250R off the line to win the holeshot.
Lawrence rode flawlessly in the main event, setting the race’s fastest lap time in the process to beat home Colt Nichols in second and Christian Craig in third
With that victory Jett moved into third place in the championship standings (on 43 points) after two rounds in the 17-round series, behind Craig (47) and Nichols (44).
Lawrence ended up finishing third overall in the 2021 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship (on 177 points), behind Nichols (210) and Japanese rider Jo Shimoda.
