On 13 February 2021, Australia’s Jett Lawrence won the seventh round of the 2021 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship to secure his second AMA SX win.  It was the first open-air race of the season inside Camping World Stadium in Orlando, Florida.

Jett, from the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, won the Eastern Regional 250SX Class event on his CRF250R Honda ahead of Yamaha riders Colt Nichols and Christian Craig.

After scoring the holeshot in the final, it was Jett’s race to lose with points leader Monster Energy Star Racing Yamaha’s Colt Nichols right behind him.
The two pulled away from third place rider Christian Craig with Team Honda HRC’s Jett Lawrence securing a faultless wire-to-wire win.

The win elevated Jett up into fourth overall in the 250SX Class Championship Standings (Eastern Regional) on 128 points behind points leader Nichols (Yamaha 166), Craig (Yamaha 158) and Japanese rider Jo Shimoda (Kawasaki 138).

Earlier in the night, Craig crashed hard in 250SX Class Heat 2 while leading. But despite riding in pain, he gutted it out in the Main Event for third, losing only two points on his teammate Nichols and keeping within reach of the Championship.

Jett ended up finishing the year on the podium in third place, behind Nichols and Shimoda going on to create history on 11 September 2021.  On that day he became the first Australian to win the AMA Pro 250 Championship, with Chad Reed the only other Australian to achieve this feat – in the 450cc class.
