Brian Anthony - Australia's greatest Unlimited sidecarcross passenger

Following the announcement of South Australian sidecar champion John Robinson being Australia’s most successful Unlimited sidecar racer, his passenger Brian Anthony has been announced as the country’s most successful passengers in this class, based on points throughout the Australian Championships.

Brian Anthony was the winner on 14 points, by just two points ahead of Wayne Kearvell (SA) and Neale Anthony (VIC), who finished equal on 12.

Originally from Victoria, but now resides in Angaston in the Barossa Valley in South Australia, Brian rides for John Robinson – winning two Unlimited titles together in 2013 and 2017.

Earlier, he won the 2008 Australian Unlimited Sidecar Championship with his uncle Trevor Anthony while living in Victoria.

Brian, who also raced in Europe with Robinson and competed in the Sidecar of Nations, finished on the winners podium six times in the Unlimited Australian titles.  In 2019, Brian swung for Belgium rider Gary Moulds in Gooik Grand Prix in Belgium, finishing 14th overall – finishing 11-16 in the two motos.

Equal second place-getter Wayne Kearvell (SA) rode with multiple Australian Champions Alf Goodwin and Murray Williams. He won four Unlimited titles in a row between 1970 and 1974 – the first with Goodwin and three in a row with Williams between 1972-74. Neale Anthony won two Australian titles with Greg Anthony in 2010 and 2014.

Equal fourth place-getter Dennis Cook rode for sidecar legend Ken Adams in the sixties and won three Australian Unlimited titles in 1966-67 and ’69. Troy Grabham, who tied with Cook, won three Australian Unlimited titles with Trevor Anthony (1991-92, ’94) having placed second with Steven Fox in 1990.
