South Australian sidecar champion John Robinson is Australia’s most successful Senior sidecar racer – based on the top three overall results in each class at the Australian Championships since 1953.

Robinson, who has won seven Australian Unlimited Sidecar titles between 1993 and 2017 and is still racing today, finished on top with 29 points – four points ahead of Victorian sidecar champion Trevor Anthony (25), who also won seven Unlimited titles (between 1990 and 2008).

Sidecar legend Murray Williams (SA) was third on 21 points, with Greg Anthony (VIC, 16) and another legend Barry Buckley (SA,14) rounding out the top 5.
Robinson’s career as a sidecar rider started in 1981 after swinging for his brother between 1978 to 1980. 

His commitment and dedication to the sport over 40 years is incredible, chalking up thousands of kilometers travelling across Australia and Europe, where he raced more than 40 meetings between 1989 and 2016, including the Sidecar of Nations.

Throughout his racing career, Robinson has won every major Australian sidecar event at least once, with more than 30 passengers – winning his first title with Simon Chapman and two each with Dave Oliver, Adrian Rohrlach and Brian Anthony.

He took out his first Unlimited title in 1993 with Chapman in the chair on a VMC Honda and won his last in 2017 with Brian Anthony on an AMS WSP.
