Kayden Minear: Australia’s new rising motocross star in the United States
At just 18, Kayden Minear from Western Australia is one of Australia’s most exciting young motocross and supercross talents — and he’s now taking on the best in the United States.
The 2022 Australian MX3 Champion and 2024 Australian MX2 Runner-Up made the bold move to the US at the end of 2024 to pursue his dream of an international racing career.
Kayden secured a rookie spot in the 250cc class of the AMA Pro Motocross Championship with the Star Yamaha team. He quickly made his mark, claiming his first major US victory on 31 May 2025 in the SMX Next – Supercross class at the Hangtown Motocross Classic.
He went on to be crowned the 2025 SMX Next World All-Stars Champion after a standout performance at the SuperMotocross Playoffs, including a win in Concord, North Carolina and a podium finish in St. Louis, Missouri.
His 2026 campaign started in perfect fashion, winning the opening round of the SMX Next class at Anaheim 2 in January. Despite missing the Houston round due to a qualifying crash, Kayden remains focused as the championship heads into its final rounds.
Kayden’s journey began at age seven with the Wanneroo Junior Motocross Club where his natural talent quickly became clear. By nine, he had already claimed two Australian Junior MX national titles in 2019 in Gillman (SA). He continued to win multiple national titles in junior motocross, including doubles at the 2022 Championships at Rockhampton (QLD).
Competing in junior and senior motocross at the same time, in 2021 at 14, he finished third in the Penrite ProMX Australian MX3 class against riders up to four years older. A year later, he signed with the Australian KTM team and, in his first full season, was crowned the 2022 Australian MX3 Champion.
That same year Kayden represented Australia at the FIM Junior Motocross World Championships in Finland, finishing seventh overall in the 125cc class against the world’s best young riders.
Stepping up to the MX2 class in 2023, Kayden impressed with a sixth-place finish in his debut season. In 2024, despite battling injury, he finished as the Australian MX2 Runner-Up Champion.
That same year, strong performances in US amateur and showcase events — including a second-place finish at the Ironman National Moto Combine — opened the door to greater opportunities in America and ultimately led to his permanent move.

Kayden Minear was born in Perth, Western Australia, on 3 May 2007 to parents Dylan and Skye. He grew up in Eglinton, in Perth’s northern suburbs, alongside his two older brothers, Jake and Jordan.
From an early age, Kayden looked up to his brothers — and even to an unlikely hero, Lightning McQueen from Pixar’s Cars. But it was watching Jake and Jordan ride that truly sparked his passion.
At just five years old, Kayden climbed onto a Yamaha 50cc PeeWee and began riding himself. The boys were members of the Wanneroo Junior Motocross Club, and in his very first race, Kayden finished second — an early sign of the talent and determination that would define his journey.
By seven, he had committed fully to motocross, giving up all other sports to focus solely on racing.
Determined to support their sons’ ambitions, Dylan and Skye built a custom motocross track in the family’s backyard, giving the boys the perfect training ground. It was there that Kayden’s skill, work ethic and competitive edge began to stand out.
In his first year with the Wanneroo Motocross Club, he won the club’s Most Promising Beginner award, claimed the 50cc State Championship, and finished third in the 65cc class against riders up to 10 years old. That breakthrough year launched him onto the national stage. By the age of nine, Kayden had already been crowned Australian Junior MX National Champion twice.
Kayden attended Peter Moyes Anglican Community School until Year 7, before transitioning to homeschooling to better balance his racing commitments. He struck a deal with his parents: if he secured a full-time professional contract by Year 10, he could leave school to pursue racing full time.
In 2024, that dream became reality. At just 15, Kayden signed with KTM Australia as a professional rider — a major milestone that confirmed his decision to go all in on the sport he loves.
Kayden's big moves - interstate and international
The year Kayden turned professional was also the year he made his first major sacrifices. To sharpen his skills against Australia’s best, he and his mum relocated to Victoria so he could train alongside the nation’s top riders. But Kayden wasn’t content staying comfortable. Known as a Western Australian “Sandgroper” with a natural feel for sandy terrain, he recognised he needed to improve on hard-packed tracks. Determined to become a complete rider, he later moved to Queensland to challenge himself on different conditions and broaden his experience.
That same year, Kayden took another bold step — travelling to the United States to test himself on the world stage. He impressed immediately, finishing second at the Ironman National Moto Combine amateur race, before lining up in the 250 World All-Stars event at the SuperMotocross World Championship Final in Las Vegas.
Those performances opened the door to even bigger opportunities. At the end of 2024, Kayden made the life-changing decision to permanently relocate to the United States to pursue his dream of building an international professional career.
In 2025 and 2026, Kayden has established himself as one of the standout riders in the AMA SMX Next class, proving he belongs among the sport’s most promising young talents.
Now based in America and competing against the best in the world, he is firmly on track for a long and successful international career — following in the footsteps of fellow Australians, the Lawrence brothers, Hunter and Jett.
For Kayden Minear, the journey from a backyard track in Western Australia to the global motocross stage is no longer just a dream — it’s his reality.
