Wilson Todd Australia’s greatest MX2 racer
Based on the top three overall results in the Australian MX2 Motocross Championships between 2002 and 2023, Queensland rider Wilson Todd is the most successful racer in this class.
Todd has so far scored 14 points during his career in the AMX History Homegrown Heroes feature for MX2 racers, four points ahead of Victorians Cameron Taylor and Troy Dorron (the inaugural winner in 2002), who are in equal second place on 7 points.
New South Wales rider Matt Moss is in fourth place, with four riders tied in fifth – Luke Clout, Luke Styke, Ryan Marmont (NSW) and Kyle Webster (WA).
Australia introduced the MX2 Class in 2002 – for two-stroke engines up to 125cc and four-stroke motors up to 250cc – with the new powerful four-stroke technology and environmentally-friendlier engines driving the change. But it wasn’t until 2004, when the Federation International Motorcycles (FIM) switched over to the new MX1, MX2 and MX3 classes for the World Motocross Championships.
After winning back-to-back Australian MX2 titles in 2018 and 2019, Todd contested the World MX2 championships in Europe, returning to Australia in 2022 and signing up with Team Honda for the new season.
Todd absolutely blitzed all opposition in the 2022 Penrite ProMX Championships, wrapping up the Pirelli MX2 series at the Queensland Moto Park round on 14 August, with one round still remaining. He did exactly the same in 2023 winning his fourth National MX2 title, his fifth overall having won the 2015 MX3 title for riders under 19 years of age.
Throughout the history of the sport, based on points, Todd is our country’s greatest ever rider in the Australian MX2 Championships.
