Anyone who was present at the Australian Motocross Championships at Noble Falls (WA) on 5-6 October 1985 will never forget Darren Williams and Mark Kendle’s spectacular aerial feats in the sidecar classes.

The South Australians became the first sidecar team to successfully and consistently land the double jumps, thrilling the large crowd on their lightweight Honda 500cc 2-stroke outfit.

Williams, the son of legendary sidecar ace Murray Williams, and Kendall first successfully attempted the doubles in the Junior Sidecar Championship on the Saturday .  

They finished third in this class behind Brian Stewart – Kim Demarte (VIC, Kawasaki EML) and David Wells – Simon Chapman (SA, Honda JRS).

Then they thrilled the large crowd on the Sunday consistently jumping the doubles in the Unlimited class, giving them a huge advantage on the other teams with the heavier WASP and EML chassis’ and bigger engines.

The newly crowned Junior Sidecar Champions Stewart-Demarte crashed out in the Unlimited Class unsuccessfully attempting to jump the doubles on their Yamaha WASP to keep up with the flying crow-eaters.

Williams-Kendle broke through at this event in the Unlimited class to win their first Australian Sidecar Championship ahead of Walter Preisig – Don Stewart (VIC, Wasp) and Bernard Mueller – Robert Duke (VIC, Honda Wasp).
